Dr Philip Poronnik
Dr Poronnik is a holder of a University of Sydney U2000 Postdoctoral Fellowship and a Lecturer in Physiology. Dr Poronnik is involved in two major areas of research. The first project is in conjunction with Professor Cook in Physiology and uses replication deficient adenoviruses to investigate Casignalling pathways in epithelial cells. This is a method which Dr Poronnik developed and the laboratory has gained an international reputation in the useof this method. The second project is in collaboration with Professor Carol Pollock (RenalLaboratory, Dept of Medicine RNS) and looks at the changes in physiology of thehuman proximal tubule, fibroblast and endothelial cells in various diseasestates, principally diabetic nephropathy. Dr Poronnik co-supervises 4 PhD andone MSc student involved in these projects. The projects are supportedby ongoing grants from the NHMRC and Juvenile Diabetes Fund International. Dr Poronnik has over 40 publications in peer reviewed journals.
