Within Duchenne
Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) my main interest is the regulation of
TRPC channels. This involves investigation of how the activity of
the channel can contribute to mdx phenotype and DMD. To
study the TRPC channel I combine a number of molecular biology and
physiological techniques together with imaging. |

Some of the
tools I have used during my doctoral and postdoctoral work include
Western blot, immunoprecipitation, real time PCR, in vitro
and in vivo transfection and electroporation. Some of these
are used to find the binding partners of TRPC (such as caveolin)
and to ascertain how these proteins influence the activity of the
channel in both health and disease. |

The main
software tools I use in image analysis are
Image Tool,
ImageJ and
Confocal Assistant. I employ colocalization analysis, FRET /
FLIM and measurements of area and fluorescence intensity to study
the TRPC channel in combination with molecular biology techniques.

During my PhD I
began to make use of 3D animations applied to science. These
animations can help to explain an experiment’s methods as well as
its results. The software I use in these animations include
Paint Shop Pro,
Animation Shop Pro,
Morpher,
3d Studio Max and
Adobe After Effects. Feel free to send me an email if you want
to discuss animation in science or if you would like to include an
animation in your next presentation!
