Development
of Novel Tumour Agents for the Treatment of Cancer
Cancer
remains an important medical problem and novel therapeutic strategies are
essential in order to fight aggressive tumours that are refractory to standard
treatments
We
have developed a new class of anti-tumour agents that target cellular iron and
overcome resistance to standard chemotherapeutics. Importantly these compounds
show marked activity in animal models and clinical trials are pending
This
project will involve the design of new compounds and their testing in the
laboratory. The work will introduce the student to basic cancer research,
pharmacology and molecular and cellular biology
